Landfill Construction Project - Part 2

When the project was approved in July of 2010, the Board noted that it was not customary to partially close a landfill cell before it was filled, but the combination of a willing gas customer and the need to reduce landfill odors before the wet winter weather set in made is feasible. “We aren’t doing anything now that would not be required in a couple of years anyway”, noted CEP Executive Director Allen Hardison. “This gave us the opportunity to be a good neighbor and sell some more gas at the same time. Simply put, we’d rather sell it, than smell it”.

The CEP’s Board of Directors met at the Tuscarora Landfill for their regular monthly meeting on September 9 and reviewed the progress on the project. With perfect weather the day of the meeting, Board members and staff toured the construction site to see the work in progress

The project was finished in October.
